Private Lessons

We teach pupils aged from 6-96 (over 96 are welcome too) Whatever you want to learn, we are here for you. Whether you’re just starting out, an experienced musician who want’s to improve specific areas of your playing, or, just someone who wants some fun and a new challenge after work.

Following our first meeting we will agree a goal and identify what you wish to learn and the best way of achieving that goal for you.

Most students take one lesson a week, which is either 30 m or 1hr in length, but you can do as much or as little as you wish.

If you’d like to take exams we teach grades 1-8, but if you’d prefer not to you’ll be under no pressure.

Drum Kit

What you’ll cover

Styles of rhythm

What songs do you like and what genre of music are they in? Common styles are Rock, Funk and Jazz, but there are many more including Latin, African, Drum & Bass, Dubstep & Metal to name a few. All of these styles have different rhythms and beats that are fundamental to them. Initially you will want to play the songs you enjoy listening to but as you get more experienced you may also look for new material to challenge you and give you new ideas.

Technical Exercises

If you’ve ever watched a drummer fly around the kit and thought “WOW!” you’ll appreciate the need to work on technique. This will includes exercises to improve your coordination, speed and timing. Some styles require specific techniques such as using double bass drums, or the ability to play at particularly high speeds.

If you’d like to take an exam or want to have a greater understanding about what and how you play, learning to read and write music will be of great benefit to you. Rhythm is the foundation of all music so the skills you learn here will also be applicable to any other instrument you study.
