Frequently Asked Questions

What ages do you teach?

Drum kit aged 7+
Hand drums aged 5+

Do I need my own kit?

No. But should you decide you enjoy the subject I would highly recommend it. You do not need to spend thousands of pounds as drum kits are available from around £100, and there are a variety of damping aids should you be worried about noise!

How long are lessons?

Generally a weekly 30m lessons is recommended for beginner/intermediate students but it will depend on your goals and what you want to achieve.

How often should I have a lesson?

Once a week is recommended. Unless you are very motivated and have great self discipline you will loose momentum and pick up bad habits without regular lessons.

Can I take exams with you?

Yes, we teach grades 1-8. Before taking an exam it is important that you think about what you are committing to, and make a realistic practise plan that you can commit to. Your teacher will help you with this. ( It should be noted that exams are not to everyone's taste)

What can I do to prepare for my first lesson?

You don't need to do anything! But you might want to think about what music you like. What songs, or bands do you enjoy listening to? (Bringing your ipod along would be a good idea.) If you already play, what area do you feel you'd like to improve, and why?

How often do I need to practise?

The more you practise the better you will become. No amount of money or lessons can ever replace the fruits of hard work in study, and no matter how much natural ability you have without a concentrated effort you will only get to a certain point. Please refer to the tale of the hare and the tortoise!
